Being Me IV. 2015. extruded acrylic on granite base. 52cm x 22cm x 16cm. edition of 10
Being Me V, 2015
Acrylic on wenge base
50cm x 45cm x 20cm
I took the vertical form from my first version of ‘Being Me’ to see how it would appear as a ‘positive’ sculpture. As you will see from this and the following image of the same sculpture, the way it is perceived changes according to the setting and the angle of view.
Generally acrylic is viewed as a very utilitarian material but it has all the qualities I was looking for in terms of how it plays with and reacts to light. Like many utilitarian materials, they have a real beauty in the right situation.
