Three years ago I moved back to Wiltshire – very close to where I started my work life. One of the things I adore about the area is the evidence of man’s presence and endeavour over centuries. One of the ways this is shown is in the various chalk horses that are cut into hillsides. The Westbury White Horse dates back to the 1600s. Penelope is my own white horse, madefrom stainless steel bar, rods and mesh, Penelope has her origins in The Queens Beasts, a series of ten sculptures that I reinterpreted to coincide with HM The Queen’s diamond jubilee in 2012. ‘Penelope’ is a unique, one off work, although further iterations of the idea could be made to commission.
