Thanks to my dear departed aunt, I was introduced to a couple in the south of France whose family arms feature a Unicorn. In their retirement home, they asked me to make a life-sized version (Unicorns are a similar size to horses!)
In similar materials to my ‘Queens Beasts’ series of 2011, I used mild steel rod to create the form, and about 120 fosters drinks cans, cut by hand, round and round to produce long strips of aluminium which I threaded through wire mesh attached to the form. A resin narwhal tusk; taxidermy eyes and cut up recycled copper boiler to make the hooves
Provenance
The Unicorn of France is a one off commission for a private collector. Completed and delivered 2016.
