I had a very enjoyable experience making this sculpture for New York based client for his beautiful property in the South of France in 2016. We met up in his New York office to co-create a sculpture that reflected his interests and personality.
The client commented afterwards: ‘Tom has helped us realize a work that is entirely original and in some ways site-specific. He has brought perceptiveness and grace to an idea that took flight in his hands. The result was remarked upon by a major collector of conceptual art who is a friend of ours: ‘I feel as if I am looking at music incarnate, probably Mozart if I had to guess…’
It is 26 metres of 10mm x 150mm stainless steel ribbon, which, like other of my work explores the parallel ideas of constancy and change in nature.
